I tried to pay Comcast to boost me to the next level (50?) and they so royally screwed up the process eventually claiming that my NIB sealed modem had been previously provisioned in Colorado which prevented the upgrade that they literally gave up. I did not know how badly I am getting shafted right now. I use my own equipment and I manage 80/6 and I thought I was getting a decent deal. I have Comcast and they just decided to upgrade me to 75/5 for $80 with cable since I would be paying about the same amount for the 25/5 after the promo period. I'm not terribly pleased with the price, but I work from home a few days a week, so it's worthwhile. I'm currently on Spectrum (previously Time Warner, previously Insight) with a 300/30 plan for $79.99. I've never had to sign-up for a long-term contract for any internet service. It does feel kind of scammy like dlux says.
On paper, even a FiOS postpaid plan is much cheaper than my current $75 for 25Mbps on Comcast. Comcast magically fixed it the day before my FiOS install was scheduled.Ģ) Those tax/fees are pretty crazy though. I nearly installed it at one point when my Comcast cable was suffering heavy packet loss for a week. Have you checked if FiOS service is available at your address? In my area - at one edge of their service area - it is on a street-by-street basis as to which streets were run with fiber, during their last expansion.ġ+3) yes, FiOS really is available at my address. They just list how much goes to them - because that is a given no matter where you live.ģ. Their coverage area encompasses lots of tax/fee entities. taxes and fees vary by city/state/county, etc. Only Comcast & DSL is wired into apartments - because nobody wants to multi-splice fiber going into such a facility.Ģ. Your apartment? As in: You are living in an apartment complex? FiOS in my area only goes to single-family homes.
Is that an additional $15? Will it grow next month?ģ) Why does hitting the "order now" button do nothing: ġ. My Comcast bill bumped up to $74.95 for their 25 Mbps service and that makes switching to Verizon for a "$60" plan of the same speed sound very appealing.ġ) How on earth do they expect me to self-install a FIOS line to my apartment? Will they really charge me $90? Or more?Ģ) What are these mysterious taxes&fees that aren't part of the $60 price. This plan generally removes that obstacle.
That is the number I am most concerned with. One of my hang-ups with changing to VZ has been I can't readily see what my bills would be after the tiered promotional periods end. I've read it is possible to do, but may require some poking and prodding. I don't want to use their router (even if I'm not paying for it) and instead would prefer to keep my Untangle/Ubiquiti setup in place. If you prefer, we’ll schedule an appointment for a skilled Verizon technician to completely set up services at your home."Ģ. Equipment is shipped directly to you with instructions for setting up service. "Self-install is a great way to set up service quickly and at your convenience. My house is not currently wired for FiOS, do I have to pay for that part of the install? All they say about the setup is this: I'm trying to get more info from VZ site regarding requirements and charges, specifically:ġ. I just had my Comcast bill bumped up to $74.95 for their 25 down/something much less up plan.
